The Itineraries

E-mail

Around 30 stages to travel one section at a time or all at once, in a single summer or over a whole decade, walking, running or strolling where your mood takes you: on the trail of the prestigious GR®5 route, created and managed by the "Fédération Française de la Randonnée" (French Hiking Federation), the Grande Traversée des Alpes ( Great Alpine Crossing) ranks among the greatest and most mythical trails of the world.

A Trail that is full of surprises

From the verdant banks of the Leman river to the snow capped peaks of the "Inner " Alps, from the Savoyard high mountain pastures to the villages perched high in the Maritime Alps. From deserts at altitude down to the sea, this trail takes you through the most beautiful Alpine scenery, through three national parks - the Vanoise, the Ecrins, the Mercantour, and helps you to understand it's diversity, wealth and contrasts: geology and climate alter the landscape, the vegetation and the fauna along your way.

A network of mountain huts and rest houses

To make this astonishing route accessible to as many people as possible, during the 1970's we worked on the construction of new mountain huts and rest houses converting mainly existing chalets in high mountain areas. Using this mix we aimed to draw up shorter stages (5-6 hour walks instead of 8). This mountain accommodation - approved wholeheartedly by the "Fédération Francaise des Clubs Alpins et de Montagne" (French Federation of Alpine and Mountain Clubs)- enables today's hiker to organise his trip according to his mood and physical capabilities and every evening at each stage he can find the services that correspond to his needs and expectations.
